Our Plan
Mental Health
We have worked with The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) through the years. These programs have raised the awareness of mental health issues, increased access to treatment and support, and reduced the stigma surrounding mental illness. We have completed workshops at The Meadows YMCA, Lawrence North High School, and The She Event, along with numerous virtual options. We have been able to provide over 2,750+ people with resources since 2022 alone.
In 2023 we have started working with The Brother You’re on My Mind Program (BYOMM) Through the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIH).
Goal 1: To collaborate on efforts to educate men, their families, and related communities on the effects of depression and stress.
Goal 2: To communicate the importance of seeking help for mental health problems and to encourage affected individuals to get information from their health care providers and others to obtain appropriate treatment.
Goal 3: Host “The Dog Walk to Support Mental Health Awareness and Physical Fitness,” in Hamilton County. Studies have shown that improving physical fitness and having pets can play a huge role in improving overall mental health. We plan to make this an annual event moving forward.
Literacy
Literacy is a fundamental skill that is essential for success in all aspects of life. The LYCF has donated over 5000 books sense 2021 from grades k-8. We have provided children resources including study materials for in class learning as well as take home learning. We have donated to Global Prep Academy, Circle City Prep Academy, Sandy Creek Elementary School, School 105 and many more.
Goal 1: Continuously promote the importance of reading through our Assault on Illiteracy programs.
Goal 2: Donate over 2000 books and study materials in 2023.
Financial Literacy
Crane Financial LLC. has come on board as a proven advisor and educator teaching the community about the vital role of becoming financially literate. We have given workshops to the community. Crane Financial LLC. was also covered on Fox 59 News on February 20, 2023, being covered for the great work and resource they have become to the community.
Goal 1: Utilize the Personal Finance Lab, Budgeting Game; The virtual game will be an engaging learning experience that teaches financial literacy skills with real-life scenarios and consequences. Throughout this program we will help students and young adults better understand the value of long-term savings and investing. We are currently in the process of seeking donations to fund this nobble endeavor.
Goal 2: Enroll 100 people in a personal financial literacy program in both Marion County and Hamilton County.
STEM / Science, Technology, Engineering, Math
STEM education is also critical for ensuring that underserved youth have the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in an increasingly technological world. While working with local drone programs, our plan is to provide scholarships for students from grade 4 through high school to participate in the summer STEM workshops. This program covers building, maintaining, operating drones and much more.
When we are enrolling for this program, we will contact the school districts and the information will be linked to our social media pages and our website.
Goal 1: Provide a combined 50 scholarships to students in both Marion and Hamilton Counties.
Goal 2: Secure funding for 100 additional scholarships for year 2024.
Urban Sustainability
Scheduling programs that create healthier, more resilient communities. Working with HUD and The John Bonner Center has allowed us to bring workshops that promote economic sustainability that supports development and connects the community to resources and information, as we help bridge the wealth gap within the urban setting.
Goal 1: To provide workshops and information on first time home buyer programs.
Goal 2: To provide workshops for small business owners seeking funding with the SBA and other lending institutions.
Goal 3: To provide workshops for small business owners seeking contracts with HUD.
